About My Mum
Created by Paul 9 years ago
My Mum (Jean) was born in Hexham and grew up around Allendale. Her mother died when she was 10 and she and her brother and three sisters were brought up by her dad.
She worked as a Nanny and domestic help and for a time worked for the Cooksons at Meldon Hall.
She and Arthur married in 1958 and they had three children, Angela, Paul and Trevor. Although they lived in the Morpeth area they moved around a lot because Arthur was a farm worker.
Jean and Arthur separated in 1992 and Jean met John with whom she had some happy years until he died in 2010.
One of the highlights of Jean’s later life was a trip to Cornwall in 2006 to visit Paul and his partner Malcolm and being taken to London by Paul for the first time in 50 years. They had a great time and walked for miles.
As her health deteriorated, she was looked after by Paul and Malcolm and spent a lot of time knitting, watching the TV and listening to Daniel O’Donnell and spoiling Bracken, the little Jack Russell, who was great company for her during the day and who was rewarded with lots of treats when Jean thought no-one was looking!
Jean will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family and Bracken (who will miss the daily treats!)
RIP Jean (Mum)
